GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
"DAY OF LOVE" EVENT
Rakes, shovels, brooms, hoes, large cutting tools and clippers in hand, the Directors of the Laguna Board of REALTORS® partnered with the residents of Glennwood Housing Foundation to prepare their gardens for a new look. Many trees and bushes needed to be removed from their existing beds to make way for an organic garden with fruits, vegetables and herbs for their cook to use in preparing their meals.
Glennwood Housing Foundation, Inc opened in August 2013 as a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation providing housing and supported living services to adults with developmental and/ or intellectual disabilities. The purpose of this uniquely formed program was to provide a compassionate and caring environment that promotes increased self-esteem and assists the participant in developing daily living skills that enables them to live independently and live, work, and play in the local community.
Glennwood is a 50 Adult Residential Facility in Laguna Beach, California. The founding Larson and Voogd families saw the need for their children to experience independent living in a safe and supportive environment. Once their children reached the age of 18 many transitional support services through the school system ended and new chapters in their lives began. Many children with disabilities often find themselves feeling isolated and Glennwood provides the opportunity for not only continued personal growth but for inclusive participation in an expansive world.
A beautiful bench was donated by the Laguna Board of REALTORS® and Affiliates’ Charitable Assistance Fund to complete their beautiful garden once all the new plants are installed.
